The Beast From The Sea

by The Recks

supported by
Elliott Mariess
Elliott Mariess thumbnail
Elliott Mariess An incredible album with ridiculously catchy tunes that translate really well from heir live sets to recoding, the band label themselves as "the kings of schizophrenic folk" and they sure do earn that title, with clear elements of Grunge, 1920s swing, Dub, The Beatles and some hints of Stoner Rock/Psych they Really do have a unique sound with broad appeal. Worth checking out if you've never heard them before, guaranteed you'll find something you like. Favorite track: Spanish Relations.

Verse 1 When I tell you that I love you, you know that baby it’s a lie But I tell that I love you so that everything seems fine I could give you all the things I stole but they’re just not mine But I give a little smile so that everything seems right Chorus I see your friends, lovers in the night-time Holding hands, it’s just not right I see your friends, hold each other tightly Don’t you know, that’s not my style Verse 2 When you ask me honey why I never hold your hand Can’t you see now honey I’m a singer in a band You’ve got a pretty little face and a very little smile But when you cry now honey don’t you know you cramp my style Chorus I see your friends, lovers in the night-time Holding hands, it’s just not right I see your friends, hold each other tightly Don’t you know, that’s not my style Verse 3 When I tell you that I’m sorry then girl you shouldn’t mind But get undressed now honey and I might just change my mind Well you say I’m too skinny and I never comb my hair But it’s the truth now baby when I say I just don’t care Chorus I see your friends, lovers in the night-time Holding hands, it’s just not right I see your friends, hold each other tightly Don’t you know, that’s not my style

Lights 05:12
Verse 1 This fairy tale ends as soon as you see the sun go down And if you whisper while you think do you think I might hear when you’re around Chorus But I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around Verse 2 You’re out of control you act just like the child of a clown I want to take control I think I’ll call a vet to put you down Chorus But I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around Bridge Tip toe walking down the road, to my home Tick tock look at the clock, it’s time to go Chorus But I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around Verse 3 I’m losing my mind I think I’ll go and take a lie down Well I’ll be better soon as soon as yoo hoo, you’re around Chorus But I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around Bridge Tip toe walking down the road, to my home Tick tock look at the clock, it’s time to go Chorus But I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around I’m walking at the light and you’re not around

Low Life 04:18
Verse 1 Low Life, No Wife Thinking oh what a pretty world Spineless, drunk mess, cowering like a girl Got a little bit of luck, got a little bit of life to help me now If you want a bit of luck, if you want a bit of life come with me now Chorus Lone, young, hopeless Tried to build a tabernacle Top of your voice now choose between the ones you love This is life’s scam, so what’s your life plan? It's never too late to go and hook up with your old clan Brewing bad weather, so go tie your tether safely to a post Before you kneel before the Holy Ghost And if you want a bit of luck get yourself a bigger life Part the clouds, embrace the warm light Verse 2 Blank face, no place Howling at the moon Lost soul in a black hole, whistling out of tune Got a little bit of luck, got a little bit of life to help me now If you want a bit of luck, if you want a bit of life come with me now Chorus Lone, young, drunk mess Gonna lose another battle Top of your voice now Think about the things you’ve done You pull your own scams, is that your life plan? Trying to buy back into the game with your old hand That’s a bad fella, so go shine your leather shoes Wipe the booze off and dance with your new love And if you want a bit of luck get yourself a bigger life Part the clouds, embrace the moonlight Bridge Black shirt white tie I know Come on baby won’t you take me home Black eyes, no smile, oh no Come on baby won’t you take me Come one baby, oh, oh Verse 3 Half wit, don’t fit, stuck inside a shell Crap thief, no teeth, on his way to hell Got a little bit of luck, got a little bit of life to help me now If you want a bit of luck, if you want a bit of life come with me now Chorus Lone, pretty, young thing Let her lips taste the apple Forbidden fruit, sour juice sticks to her gums If it’s the wrong thing, but pulls your heart strings It’s never to late to go and listen to your old dreams She’s a fine feather, caught in bad weather Life's lived on a whim but you don’t have to do the wrong thing Learn to eat your cracker with no cheese But if you want pommes then show me how you like these Yeah show me how you like these

Verse 1 I saw the walls cave in today and they murdered my reflection I saw the walls cave in today and they murdered my reflection You know I never heard you scream oh but I I’ve never seen you smile You know I never heard you scream oh but I I’ve never seen you smile Verse 2 I love your eyes like pearls and your lips were made for kissing I love your golden curls and your skin girl I’ve been missing Chorus Yeah, you're what I want Yeah, you’re what I want

Stranger 05:08
Verse 1 While the craven dogs cry sucking humble pie Under the shadows of blasphemes of the sad ravens smile I know you know they know there’s a stranger in town And for some strange reason I had another vision Of the man stood tall and proud But despite my reactions I lost him in the crowd Chorus Run child run child beware of the killer Run child run child hide from the killer Run child run child run from the killer, now Run child run child beware of the killer Run child run child hide from the killer Run child run child run from the killer, now Verse 2 I heard he caught a feral child walking in the wild I heard he loved as his own and he He killed him on the way back home I heard he caught the rarest spider It crawled from deep inside of he Sailed his sins on the northern wind And he burnt the witch and he burnt her twin Chorus Run child run child beware of the killer Run child run child hide from the killer Run child run child run from the killer, now Run child run child beware of the killer Run child run child hide from the killer Run child run child run from the killer, now Verse 3 The thunder strikes and the lightning falls as they call out the names of the dead The tears mix with rain as they call out the names of all those that they are left on the earth The flames from beneath scorch the soles of the feet of all those who left behind They all join their hands; write the names in sand as they scream and they fight to be heard Chorus Run child run child beware of the killer Run child run child hide from the killer Run child run child run from the killer, now Run child run child beware of the killer Run child run child hide from the killer Run child run child run from the killer, now

about

Released in 2018, this experimental multi-genre record produced five singles. From Gypsy Jazz to Prog Rock to Reggae to Hip-Hop to Dub to Folk and with some very theatrical and unashamed 'pop' moments thrown in for good measure. This peculiar and fascinating record is one for the more adventurous music lover.
